Hunter Biden declined to testify at a closed hearing and instead offered to take the witness stand at a public session. Because he had refused the subpoena, the Republican-chaired committee now wanted to accuse him of contempt of Congress. Republican Rep. Nancy Mace called Biden's appearance a "PR stunt." He should “be arrested here and now and go straight to prison,” she demanded. The meeting degenerated into a series of shouting duels. Mace claimed Biden had previously not complied with the subpoena to testify out of “fear.”
